As a pescaterian, I love anything from fish to seafood and there is no better time than the summer to grill some octopus. You can enjoy it with salads, with mash potatoes, with dips or on its own. It’s the perfect appetiser or a main course for those warm summer days, accompanied with a cold glass of white wine or beer.
Like most seafood, octopus is lean and very low on calories and carbohydrates. A 100 g serving has less than 170 calories and more than 29 g of protein. The octopus is packed with nutrients, minerals and vitamin B12. It promotes the cardiovascular health and stimulates cognitive health. It has low content of saturated fat which assists in losing weight.

Grilled Octopus with Mashed Potatoes
Equipment
- Grill
Ingredients
For the grilled octopus
- 150 g Octopus tentacle
- 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
For the mashed potatoes
- 3 Potatoes medium
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 2 tbsp Soya milk
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
- In a saucepan bring water to boil. Peal the potatoes, cut them in half and place into the boiling water. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or until you can easily poke through the potatoes with a fork.
- Remove the potatoes from the heat, drain the water, add the butter, soya milk, salt and black pepper and mash all together until they are smooth.
- While the potatoes are boiling, heat the grill. Place the octopus on a plate and drizzle some olive oil on the top. Sprinkle salt and pepper and place directly on a greased grill rack.
- Cook for 5-6 minutes on each side or until the tentacle becomes crispy. Remove from the grill and serve with mash potatoes.
